Around 1520 many masters of the high renaissance passed away. This allowed a new generation of artists, to emerge and become the hot artists of Florence. If you are down with the art history, be sure to check out this piece from the NYTimes about a new art exhibit featuring some of the best drawings from the artists of this time period. It's a shame I don't live in NYC anymore as high and post-renaissance has always been some of my favorite art.

But if you want it broken down, everybody will come for the Michelangelo, and then get blown away by his contemporaries. Oh, don't get me wrong, he most certainly had a divine hand. But it is the other artists that carry that modern flair for innovation that the West has craved since photography revolutionized visual arts by shifting art and demand to the impressionists.
